Special Section: Education

In the 21st Century, education has become a life-long endeavor. Whether you are the parent of a grade school student, a teacher in the district, a college student (whether traditional or continuing) or an educator trying to ensure the success of your charges, staying ahead of the curve is what makes future opportunities possible for the residents of our area.

The Canon-McMillan School District is using its resources to improve curriculum in the high school and make technology education a priority in the earlier grades. Students are being inspired by teams of teachers who are looking beyond the school walls, inviting professionals into the classroom in an effort to help our youth learn first-hand about various career opportunities. The District is looking to provide today’s learners with the best possible information about tomorrow’s job prospects.

In the pages that follow, you’ll find out about how Canon-McMillan Middle School is implementing new Tech Ed programs and about the Supernova team. You’ll read about Project 720, a PA Department of Education funded program that is allowing the high school to update its curriculum to meet the individual needs of all its students. You’ll visit the great colleges that are in our own backyard.

We are always learning new things. No matter what they say about dogs and tricks, it’s never too late to learn something new. No matter whether you’ve recently begun a new school year, sent your kids off to class or been enjoying a quieter neighborhood in your retirement years, we all know that this time of year is an exciting time where learning comes to the fore once again and we focus on education in our community.
