The End of Ice Scraping

Winter is quickly approaching, and with it the dreaded task of scraping ice and snow off your vehicle windows. How can this end? you ask. The answer is simple: install a remote car starter. With the push of a button you are in control; no more freezing and no more scraping. In just 15 minutes you’ll have a nice warm car.

Remote car starters come in many models, and the price range varies depending on required options. The basic remote start is available for just under $200 and has an 800-foot-range and one transmitter. The next model is the most popular since it comes with two transmitters and has a 1,000-foot range. A popular choice for the “gadget” person is a two-way pager unit. This model comes with a small screen. Once you start the car with the transmitter, it beeps to let you know the vehicle is running and shows the car emitting exhaust fumes on the screen. The run time also appears at the top of the screen. If after 20 minutes you have not entered the vehicle, the transmitter pages you, letting you know the car has stopped running.

Coming soon is the SST 2-Way Remote Start with a one-mile range. Most systems can allow you to add keyless entry and trunk release function. One of the coolest add-ons is GPS tracking which allows you to track the vehicle anywhere in the country. Need security? Add an alarm. Most systems have alarm capability. The pager systems will alert you if your alarm has sounded and it even lets you know if the thief is outside or inside your car.

One of the most exaggerated myths is that you void your factory warranty by installing a remote start. This is false. The remote start has been a popular Christmas gift over the past five years. So, if you are interested in purchasing and installing one, contact your local aftermarket specialist. In the future, remote car starters will be as common as the television remote control.
