Heavenly Buffet

Tiger Huang, owner of the New York Buffet and Grill, beside the sumptuous buffet

Oysters on the half shell, clams and mussels, all nestling on a bed of ice, surrounded by lemons and four different sauces, including cocktail, mustard and duck sauce. Glistening with freshness. Endless soups, including my favorite, wonton. Short ribs, chicken in a multitude of dishes, dumplings, lo mein, kung pao, as well as a vast array of beef and pork offerings. Rice, noodles, sauces – endless varieties to tempt.

Moving on to the other Asian dishes. Feel free to try the sushi in a variety of combinations, including California rolls, tuna, red snapper. Or scoop up a plate of raw steak and vegetables ready to be cooked immediately Hibachi style.

Offered is a wide range of fixings for salads, pasta and pizza, for this is an Italian buffet, too. Save room for dessert, such as some tantalizing strawberry ice cream or a little vanilla or chocolate custard.

“What we are trying to do here,” explains Tiger the owner, “is to offer customers a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of food choices at a reasonable price.”

Don’t be fooled by the low-key name. Calling itself the New York Buffet & Grill, this recently-opened McMurray eatery offers the freshest seafood, meat, vegetables, salads and pastas in more than 80 imaginative dishes. The ambience is neat and very inviting and the prices at $6.50 for lunch and $11.95 for dinner represent great value. So try some seafood, a little Hibachi and fruit dessert and leave feeling you have conquered your hunger with interesting dishes that will keep tempting you to return. And at these prices, it’s very difficult to refuse the invitation.

Private party room available. Reservations at least one week ahead. Hours of opening: Sunday (all-day dinner) 11 to 9. Monday to Thursday 11 am to 9.30 pm. Friday and Saturday 11 to 10.00. Located at the Festival Foods Plaza, 102 Gallery Drive, McMurray on Route 19, Washington Rd. 724-942-8988.
